Abstract

Third and Fourth grades of the Artistic High School - Address Architecture and Environment

Study of the great masters of architecture and setting up a didactic website, with the support of the Edmodo Platform, a virtual classroom where to give all kinds of indications and for the verification of students' works.

The most important phases of the practice outline the process of managing an educational website conducted by the students under the supervision of the teacher. 

The main objective of the project is to stimulate in pupils the interest about Architecture and Enviroment through an active team partecipation.

Description of the practice

The practice describes a process of managing an educational website focused on the study of an architect, chosen at will by the pupils involved in the project. The didactic website is implemented during the three years with other disciplines and the PCTO experience to be illustrated during the oral exam of maturity.

Not all students had a good connection and to fill this gap the SketchUp program was used to give back in three-dimensional and measured form the work of the great master of Architecture Aldo Rossi: The Theatre of the World.

A stylistic exercise on an ephemeral architecture, followed by a series of steps for a correct realization. Layers, different floors and systems of dancers with stairs, octagonal dome. But above all elaborations with precise indications to perform sections, images and scene settings both for Layout and Video.

 

For all students, but especially for those who had only the smartphone, a series of videos of the Architecture Studios currently existing in the world have been organized. In order not to make the vision merely passive, a series of tasks/quizzes have been administered, both multiple-choice and short-choice, to make the student aware of various issues regarding Architecture and Environment, but also to observe some details and the concept of Team, as well as digital systems. A chapter also covered opinions on Architecture and Pandemic.

Learning Outcomes

EDUCATIONAL SITES - MASTERS OF CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE

All the students saw in the classroom in the presence of some examples made by students of the art high school, presented at the Diploma. The activities continued in distance learning in the months of March, April, May 2020.

In relation to these examples they had a series of indications to proceed according to a precise methodology that includes: Time line related to the Biography of the architect, geo-referenced map of the works and projects of the architect under examination, relative sub-chapters of the works, links with sites and relative sources. The site will later be expanded with other disciplines, but in this quarter some chapters have been added such as the architectural current in which the architect in question can be framed or special chapters such as "Architecture" and "Pandemic" or events that occurred during the quarantine such as the inauguration of the Genoa Bridge by Renzo Piano. The sites realized "work in progress" by the students are 40.

In Class : professionalizing Laboratory of Architecture; Software for 3D models SketchUp PRO 19, render LightUp and Lumion. Kubity for immersive vitrual viewer Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. For Augmented Reality SketchUp and Kubity for 3D and Metaverse models.

 

At home: poor performance PCs without good connection. Free SketchUp Make17 software, Tablets and Smartphones.

Description, evaluation and lessons learned

Through the EdModo Platform, asynchronously the directions to proceed have been given. Each student has sent the link to the teacher indicating the added papers.

During all the Distance Learning activities, indications were given and revisions and deliveries were made through the EdModo Platform.
