Reason for policy

"This policy follows from Commission’s White Paper on the Future of Europe, the initiative 'Investing in Europe's Youth' and the New Skills Agenda for Europe."

Description of the policy

"This policy frames new EU support for higher education, by addressing challenges such as i) tackling future skills mismatches and promoting excellence in skills development, ii) building inclusive and connected higher education systems, iii) ensuring higher education institutions contribute to innovation, and iv) supporting effective and efficient higher education systems. It does so by  referring to 16 specific actions, one of which consists of the launch of an up-scaled EU STE(A)M coalition where employers of the education sector, business and public sector come together to promote the uptake of relevant STE(A)M subjects by moderninsing STE(A)M and other curricula, including through more multi-disciplinary programmes and cooperation between relevant faculties and HEIs."

Implementation procedures and plan

"This policy, apart from creating the basis for a renewed EU STE(A)M Coalition among employers in the education sector, public sector and business sector, is also used by the European Commission to justify attribution of funding to projects that focus on the promotion of STEM via their modernisation as STE(A)M and their introduction in curricula."
