Black History Month
Abstract

A project on the anniversary of African-American history and human rights. Students in groups will research historical facts about this celebration, find information about African American representatives of sports, arts (music, art, cinema), science and politics, learn the stories of Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges and their importance to human rights, analyze works of art, create timelines for African American Nobel Laureates and present their work at an information and awareness event to be organized in February which is a month of remembrance at the Corfu Library for their school.

Description of the practice

A scenario based on project work which includes its identity details (subject, students' profile, teaching hours, curriculum requirements, teaching material, expected results), a detailed description of each lesson (type of activities, teacher's role, students' role, digital tools'applications, resources, expected outcome), teaching notes for each lesson, scenario evaluation and impact, follow-up and bibliography.

Learning Outcomes

Concerning English, students are expected to develop receptive and productive skills, expand on their vocabulary, use and produce different types of text and practice grammar and syntax. Concerning technology, they are expected to use  the World Wide Web effectively to search for specific information, as a means of organizing and supporting educational work, as a learning tool and as a means of communication and collaboration, utilizing knowledge through research, developing aesthetic experience, improving digital literacy skills through the e-me platform ( e-blogs, e-portfolio etc), using digital tools such as google translate, google slideshow presentations, venngage, timelines, canva, mindmeister, xmind and web resources (e.g. wikipedia, movie trailers). Concerning learning process and knowledge of the world, students are expected to improve their knowledge of English, to inform and raise awareness about human rights and the history of African Americans, to engage in group and collaborative activities, to reflect and find the right options in reaching the outcomes of the tasks, to develop digital collaboration, communication and interaction, to practise different kinds of literacy  ( informational, critical, digital), to amplify their social skills that help bridge the gap between school activities and everyday life experiences.
