Maria Sibylla Merian
Abstract

This educational scenario addresses the issue of women in science, and in particular the figure of: Maria Sibylla Merian. The scientist's story is used as a stimulus to encourage class discussion about the female condition and differences with today's society. Through Europeana, pupils view Merian's work.

At the end of the course pupils are invited to produce a short film or a presentation to illustrate to their peers.

This learning scenario was developed during the Italian version of the online course "Europeana in the classroom: building 21st century skills with digital cultural heritage". The course aimed to improve teachers' understanding of cultural heritage in order to integrate it efficiently into their lessons and practices.
